UPS, in collaboration with the City of Fort Lauderdale, is officially launching an eBike at a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Saturday, December 2, at 9 a.m. at Laura Ward Riverwalk Plaza, 420 S.E. 6th Avenue. This electrically-assisted tricycle will be used to deliver packages along Las Olas Boulevard and in the surrounding neighborhood. Fort Lauderdale will be the first city in Florida to receive this environmentally-friendly service. Read the press release.

The City of Fort Lauderdale initiated a partnership with UPS as part of the Las Olas Boulevard Traffic and Safety Calming Community Investment Project, a six-month demonstration that repurposes excess asphalt (based on traffic capacity studies) with temporary materials to provide new protected bicycle lanes, safer pedestrian crossings, and designated loading and unloading zones. This demonstration project is expected to be complete within the next two weeks.

The Las Olas Boulevard demonstration project was identified as an ideal location to implement an eBike to balance the needs of our neighbors, businesses, and guests to create a safer, more enjoyable experience for all who visit Las Olas Boulevard. This emission-free tricycle will increase air quality, reduce roadway noise and congestion, and lead the City’s effort to encourage loading and unloading activities within designated zones away from the Boulevard.

The introduction of the electrically-assisted eBike reinforces the City’s commitment to its Green Your Routine program, which is geared toward achieving the City’s sustainability goals, and Vision Zero Fort Lauderdale, a citywide initiative to reduce traffic deaths and serious injuries on our streets to zero.

The City of Fort Lauderdale continues to reimagine existing space within our streets to provide for roadway safety and the evolving transportation needs of our residents, businesses, and visitors. Partnerships such as this enable the City to design and provide safe, comfortable infrastructure for all transportation modes and service activities, as well as create a multimodal transportation network that allows individuals to choose how they would like to travel to and from their destinations.
