Information Regarding Street Closures in the City of Fort Lauderdale

Please be advised that the following report is compiled from multiple sources and agencies that, at times, provide conflicting information. Every effort is made to ensure accuracy; however, due to the fluid nature of road closures, this information is subject to change.


>> 3800 Bayview Drive Detour

Crews will continue working through the weekend to complete scheduled repairs to a sewer main at 3800 Bayview Drive.  The roadway remains closed in both directions and traffic is being detoured until the repair is complete.

Weather permitting, the contractor for the project has advised the City that roadway restoration is expected to be complete at approximately noon on Monday, March 20.

>> I-95 from south of Broward Boulevard to north of Commercial Boulevard

  • Three northbound lanes of I-95 will be closed Sunday through Thursday, with the first lane closing at 10:30 p.m., the second lane closing at 11:30 p.m. and the third lane closing at 12:30 a.m. until 5 a.m. All lanes will be open by 5:30 a.m.
  • One inside lane of I-95 southbound will be closed Sunday through Thursday between 10:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.
  • The I-95 northbound exit ramps to Sunrise Boulevard will be closed Sunday through Thursday between 11:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. Traffic will be detoured via Oakland Park Boulevard. FHP will be on site to assist motorists.
  • The I-95 northbound entrance ramps from Sunrise Boulevard will be closed Sunday through Thursday between 11:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. Traffic will be detoured via I-95 and Powerline Road. FHP will be on site to assist motorists.
  • The I-95 northbound exit ramps to Oakland Park Boulevard will be closed Sunday through Thursday between 11:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. through Thursday night, April 6. Traffic will be detoured via Commercial Boulevard. FHP will be on site to assist motorists.
  • The I-95 northbound entrance ramps from Oakland Park Boulevard will be closed Sunday through Thursday between 11:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. through Thursday night, April 6. Traffic will be detoured via Commercial Boulevard and Powerline Road. FHP will be on site to assist motorists.
  • The outside lane in each direction of Broward Boulevard from SW 1st Street to SW 18th Street will be closed Monday through Thursday between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.
  • One lane of the I-95 southbound entrance ramp from Broward Boulevard will be closed Monday through Thursday between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.
  • Two lanes of the I-95 southbound exit ramp to Broward Boulevard will be closed Monday through Thursday between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.


>> A1A Improvements Project from Oakland Park Boulevard to Flamingo Avenue

  • Northbound traffic is shifted slightly west toward the center of the road. Southbound traffic will remain on the west side of the road. Traffic will be in this configuration through March 2017, while the contractor completes the reconstruction of the east side of the road. Two lanes will be open in each direction.
  • Access from northbound Galt Ocean Drive to A1A will be restricted through March 2017. Motorists may access A1A via NE 41st Street, NE 36th Street and NE 35th Street.
  • One northbound lane of A1A from Oakland Park Boulevard to Flamingo Road may be closed Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. for drainage improvements.
  • The crosswalk at NE 34th Street is closed until April while the business access road along the east side of the road is completed and the new sidewalk is constructed. Pedestrians will be directed to use the crosswalks at NE 32nd Street and NE 36th Street.
  • Access to the business drive aisle from NE 33rd Street to NE 36th Street may be restricted Sunday through Wednesday night between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. for drainage work.


>> A1A Improvements Project from East of the Mercedes River Bridge to Sunrise Boulevard

  • One lane in each direction of A1A from the Mercedes River Bridge to SE 5th Street will be closed Sunday through Thursday between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. for roadway lighting installation and construction activities.
  • One lane in each direction of Sunrise Boulevard from the Intracoastal Waterway Bridge to A1A will be closed Monday through Friday between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. for roadwork.
  • One lane in each direction of A1A from Fort Lauderdale Beach Park to Belmar Street may be closed Monday through Friday between 4 p.m. and 6 a.m. for lighting improvements.


>> NW 9th Avenue / Powerline Road Improvements Project from Broward Boulevard to NW 6th Street / Sistrunk Boulevard

  • NW 9th Avenue / Powerline Road from Broward Boulevard to NW 3rd Street will be open to local traffic only Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. for drainage improvements. Motorists will be detoured to NW 7th Avenue or NW 11th Avenue.


>> Broward Boulevard Improvements and Bridge Replacement Project

  • Westbound traffic is shifted slightly north and will use the three-lane temporary bridge for the duration of construction.
  • Up to two lanes in each direction of Broward Boulevard from US 1 to NW 18th Avenue will be closed Monday through Friday between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. for drainage improvements and widening. The closures will be limited to 500 feet maximum at a time.
  • The sidewalk along the north side of Broward Boulevard from NW 18th Avenue to NW 15th Avenue is closed. Detour signs are in place to guide pedestrians.
  • The sidewalk along the north side of Broward Boulevard from US 1 to NW 18th Avenue may be closed intermittently between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. for drainage improvements and widening. Signs will be in place to direct pedestrians to the south sidewalk as needed.
  • The outside lane in each direction of the cross streets on either side of Broward Boulevard from NW 3rd Avenue / Nugent Avenue to NW 7th Avenue / Avenue of the Arts may be closed Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. for the installation of traffic signal foundations on Broward Boulevard. Crews will only work at one cross street at a time.


>> Powerline Road Improvements Project from Sunrise Boulevard to NW 29 Street

  • One lane in each direction of Powerline Road from Sunrise Boulevard to NW 29 Street will be closed Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. for sidewalk and curb ramp improvements.
  • A sidewalk will be maintained on at least one side of the road within the project limits. Signage will be in place to guide pedestrians through the work zone.


>> SE 17th Street at SE 15th Avenue Intersection Improvements Project

  • Up to two lanes in each direction of SE 17th Street at SE 15th Avenue may be closed Sunday through Thursday night between 7:30 p.m. and 11:30 a.m. for signalization improvements.


>> Old Dixie Highway Improvements Project from NE 13th Street to the Middle River Bridge

  • The northbound lane of Old Dixie Highway from NE 13th Street to NE 14th Place may be closed Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. A flag crew will direct traffic.


>> CSX Bridge Replacement over the South Fork of the New River

  • The outside shoulder of the eastbound I-595 exit ramp to northbound I-95 is closed through early 2017.
  • There will be intermittent interruptions in the channel for marine traffic while contractor performs some activities with the bridge in the lowered position. The bridge will open when a vessel approaches, but there may be short delays.


>> SE 17 Street at SE 15 Avenue
  • One lane in each direction of SE 17 Street at SE 15 Avenue will be closed Sunday through Thursday evenings between 7:30 p.m. and 11:30 a.m. Construction will begin February 28, 2017 and will be completed in summer 2017.


>> River Oaks Pump Station Upgrade - Temporary Road Closures on SW 9th Avenue

The intersection of Avocado Isle and SW 9th Avenue will be closed on:

  • March 7 – April 25
  • Sept. 14 – October 16

Other temporary lane closures may go into effect during construction. Water and sewer service should not be affected during construction. Neighbors are asked to please follow posted detour routes and drive with caution in the area.


>>  Old Dixie Highway from north of NE 13th Street to south of the bridge over the Middle River
  • Lane closures can be expected along Old Dixie Highway from NE 13th Street to the bridge over the Middle River Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
  • Construction will begin February 27, 2017 and is expected to be completed by early 2018


>>   Replacement of the Broward Boulevard Bridge over the North Fork of the New River
  • Construction will be completed in summer 2018.
  • Access to businesses, residences and schools will be maintained at all times.
  • Single-lane closures are expected Mondays through Fridays between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
  • Double-lane closures are expected Mondays through Fridays between 12:30 a.m. and 6 a.m.
  • Lane closures may also occur on weekends, except during special events.

 >> State Road A1A Construction Work through Summer 2017
  • Improvements on A1A from Oakland Park Boulevard to Flamingo Avenue
  • Two lanes of traffic in each direction of A1A will be maintained at all times.
  • The existing 35 mph speed limit will remain in effect during construction.
  • Single-lane closures can be expected from 9:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
  • At signalized intersections, a lane may be closed for a period of two hours or less between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
  • A sidewalk will be maintained on at least one side of the road within the project limits. Signage will be in place to guide pedestrians through the work zone.
  • During construction, the right or outside lane in each direction will become a shared bicycle lane and will have temporary "sharrow" (share the road) pavement markings and signage.

Please remember to slow down in construction areas and always buckle up, drive carefully and arrive safely. Share the road.
