Please be advised that this report is compiled from multiple sources and agencies that, at times, provide conflicting information. Every effort is made to ensure accuracy; however, due to the fluid nature of road closures, this information is subject to change.

Information Regarding Street Closures in the City of Fort Lauderdale


>> A1A Marathon -- Sunday, February 19

The City of Fort Lauderdale reminds residents and visitors that the A1A Marathon will take place along Fort Lauderdale Beach on Sunday, February 19 from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  

Although both lanes of A1A northbound will be dedicated to runners, north and south vehicular traffic will be redirected to the southbound lanes of A1A for travel through the area, except north of Sunrise Boulevard where the roadway will be limited to resident vehicles only.  Temporary road closures will also occur on Seabreeze Boulevard at E Las Olas Boulevard from 6:00 a.m. – 7:00 a.m., and on A1A just north of Sunrise Boulevard between 7:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. 

Motorists will experience heavy traffic and congestion along A1A and are advised to seek alternate routes to avoid delays until 12:30 p.m.  The Fort Lauderdale Police Department will have over 100 officers stationed along the marathon route to guide pedestrians and motorists and ensure public safety.

Road Closures:  The roadways of SW 2 Street from SW 7 – SW 4 Avenues and on SW 5 Avenue from south of the Broward Center for the Performing Arts Center parking garage entrance will be closed to vehicular traffic for event set-up and race start and tear down, from Saturday night, February 15, at 11:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. to Sunday, February 15.  Also, during the event, no vehicles will be allowed to travel north on A1A from Sunrise Blvd to NE 23 Street.  The only exception will be the residents that live in this area.  No other roads will be closed prior to or during the marathon.

Marathon Route:  The starting line will be located near the intersection of SW 2 Street at SW 4 Avenue.  Runners will continue east to Andrews Avenue, south to E Las Olas Boulevard, east to A1A and turn north onto A1A.  Traffic will be redirected at the intersection of Sunrise Boulevard at A1A where other traffic delays are expected.  At Sunrise Boulevard and A1A, all runners will turn west and enter into Birch State Park at Sunrise Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale, where they will complete a two-mile loop, exit the park, and then continue northbound on A1A.  The course continues north on A1A past Oakland Park Boulevard, briefly to Galt Ocean Drive, back to A1A and north into Pompano Beach for full marathoners.  

On their return route, full marathoners will turn around just south of the Hillsboro Inlet Bridge in Pompano Beach and will follow A1A southbound to the finish line in the South Beach Parking Lot at 800 Seabreeze Boulevard. Half marathoners will return south on A1A from NE 35 Street toward the same finish line at South Beach Park.

The roadway will be cleared and normal traffic is expected to resume by 12:30 p.m.


>> SE 17 Street at SE 15 Avenue

  • One lane in each direction of SE 17 Street at SE 15 Avenue will be closed Sunday through Thursday evenings between 7:30 p.m. and 11:30 a.m. Construction will begin February 28, 2017 and will be completed in summer 2017.


>> SW 7th Street Force Main Repair Project

The City of Fort Lauderdale plans to replace 300 feet of underground pipe on SW 7th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues. A portion of SW 7th Street will be closed to vehicular traffic during construction, which is expected to begin on February 21 and continue for approximately 10 days.

Water and sewer service should not be affected during construction. Neighbors are asked to follow posted detour routes and drive with caution in the area.  We sincerely appreciate your continued patience. >> Bridge Maintenance at Andrews Avenue Bridge Over the New River

Broward County Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division (HBMD) will be performing bridge maintenance at the Andrews Avenue Bridge over the New River, beginning on Saturday, February 11, 2017, and concluding on or before February 23, 2017 - barring unforeseen conditions or weather delays.

  • One of two northbound lanes on Andrews Avenue Bridge over the New River will be temporarily closed February 13-15 and February 20-21, 2017, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • The sole eastbound lane of South New River Drive on the south side of the New River may be temporarily closed on February 10, 16, and 23, 2017. Parking along South New River Drive may be temporarily unavailable during this time.
  • The New River will be closed to normal boat traffic at the bridge February 11-21, 2017, 10 p.m. – 9 a.m. .
  • Andrews Avenue from S.E. 5th Street to Las Olas Boulevard will be closed from February 22-23, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. and traffic will be detoured to S.E. 3rd Avenue.

Variable message signs will be posted to warn affected motorists and pedestrians.


>> I-95 from the Golden Glades Interchange in Miami-Dade County to Broward Boulevard

  • Northbound and southbound express lanes may be closed as needed for plastic pole repair Monday through Wednesday night between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Drivers should use the non-tolled general use lanes.


>> I-95 from south of Broward Boulevard to north of Commercial Boulevard

  • Three northbound lanes of I-95 will be closed Sunday through Thursday, with the first lane closing at 10:30 p.m., the second lane closing at 11:30 p.m. and the third lane closing at 12:30 a.m. until 5 a.m. All lanes will be open by 5:30 a.m.

  • The outside lane and shoulder of I-95 northbound at Griffin Road will be closed Sunday through Thursday between 10:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.

  • One lane of the I-95 northbound entrance ramp from Griffin Road will be closed Sunday through Thursday between 10:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.

  • The I-95 northbound exit ramps to Sunrise Boulevard will be closed Sunday through Thursday between 11:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. Traffic will be detoured via Oakland Park Boulevard. FHP will be on site to assist motorists.

  • The I-95 northbound entrance ramps from Sunrise Boulevard will be closed Sunday through Thursday between 11:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. Traffic will be detoured via I-95 and Powerline Road. FHP will be on site to assist motorists.

  • The I-95 northbound entrance ramps from Broward Boulevard will be closed Sunday through Thursday between 11:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. Traffic will be detoured to the park-and-ride lot entrance ramp. FHP will be on site to assist motorists.

  • The I-95 northbound entrance ramps from Sunrise Boulevard and Broward Boulevard will not be closed at the same time.

  • Advance Notice: The outside lane in each direction of Broward Boulevard from SW 1st Street to SW 18th Street will be closed Sunday through Friday between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., beginning Sunday, February 19 through Thursday, February 23.

  • Advance Notice: One lane of the I-95 southbound entrance ramp from Broward Boulevard will be closed Sunday through Friday between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., beginning Sunday, February 19 through Thursday, February 23.

  • Advance Notice: Two lanes of the I-95 southbound exit ramp to Broward Boulevard will be closed Sunday through Thursday between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., beginning Sunday, February 19 through Thursday, February 23.


>> A1A Improvements Project from Oakland Park Boulevard to Flamingo Avenue

  • Northbound traffic is shifted slightly west toward the center of the road. Southbound traffic will remain on the west side of the road. Traffic will be in this configuration through March 2017, while the contractor completes the reconstruction of the east side of the road. Two lanes will be open in each direction.

  • Access from northbound Galt Ocean Drive to A1A will be restricted through March 2017. Motorists may access A1A via NE 41st Street, NE 36th Street and NE 35th Street.

  • One northbound lane of A1A from Oakland Park Boulevard to Flamingo Road may be closed intermittently Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. for drainage improvements.


>> A1A Improvements Project from East of the Mercedes River Bridge to Sunrise Boulevard

  • One lane in each direction of A1A from the Mercedes River Bridge to SE 5th Street will be closed Sunday through Thursday between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. for resurfacing.

  • One lane in each direction of A1A from the Mercedes River Bridge to SE 5th Street will be closed Monday through Friday between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. for utility work and other construction activities.

  • One lane in each direction of Sunrise Boulevard from the Intracoastal Waterway Bridge to A1A will be closed Monday through Friday between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. for widening, concrete removal and curb and gutter installation.

  • One lane in each direction of Sunrise Boulevard from the Intracoastal Waterway Bridge to A1A will be closed Sunday through Thursday between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. for resurfacing.

  • One northbound lane of A1A from the Fort Lauderdale Beach Park entrance to Castillo Street may be closed Monday through Thursday night between 4 p.m. and 6 a.m. for lighting improvements at four crosswalks


>> NW 9th Avenue / Powerline Road Improvements Project from Broward Boulevard to NW 6th Street / Sistrunk Boulevard

NW 9th Avenue / Powerline Road from NW 3rd Street to NW 5th Street will be open to local traffic only Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. for drainage improvements. Motorists will be detoured as follows:

  • Northbound NW 9th Avenue will be detoured to NW 7th Avenue.
  • Southbound NW 9th Avenue will be detoured to NW 7th Avenue or NW 11th Avenue.
  • NW 4th Street will be detoured to NW 2nd Street or NW 5th Street.

NW 9th Avenue / Powerline Road from NW 5th Street to NW 6th Street will be open to local traffic only Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. for drainage improvements. Motorists will be detoured as follows:

  • Northbound NW 9th Avenue will be detoured to NW 7th Avenue or NW 11th Avenue.
  • Southbound NW 9th Avenue will be detoured to NW 7th Avenue or NW 11th Avenue.


>> Broward Boulevard Improvements and Bridge Replacement Project

  • Westbound traffic is shifted slightly north and will use the three-lane temporary bridge for the duration of construction.
  • Up to two lanes in each direction of Broward Boulevard from US 1 to NW 18th Avenue will be closed Monday through Friday between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. for drainage improvements. The closures will be limited to 500 feet maximum at a time.
  • The sidewalk along the north side of Broward Boulevard from NW 18th Avenue to NW 15th Avenue is closed. Detour signs are in place to guide pedestrians.
  • The sidewalk along the north side of Broward Boulevard from US 1 to NW 18th Avenue may be closed intermittently Monday, January 23 through Friday, February 24 between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. for drainage improvements. Signs will be in place to direct pedestrians to the south sidewalk as needed.


>> Powerline Road Improvements Project from Sunrise Boulevard to NW 29 Street

  • One northbound lane of Powerline Road from Sunrise Boulevard to NW 29 Street will be closed Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. for sidewalk improvements.
  • A sidewalk will be maintained on at least one side of the road within the project limits. Signage will be in place to guide pedestrians through the work zone.


>> CSX Bridge Replacement over the South Fork of the New River
  • The outside shoulder of the eastbound I-595 exit ramp to northbound I-95 is closed through early 2017.
  • There will be intermittent interruptions in the channel for marine traffic while contractor performs some activities with the bridge in the lowered position. The bridge will open when a vessel approaches, but there may be short delays.
  • The New River Channel will be closed to marine traffic nightly Saturday, February 11 through Thursday, February 23 between 9:30 p.m. and 6 a.m. while the contractor installs a new submarine conduit system across the channel and removes and relocates the existing railroad bridge's movable span to the north river bank.


>>   Replacement of the Broward Boulevard Bridge over the North Fork of the New River
  • Construction will be completed in summer 2018.
  • Access to businesses, residences and schools will be maintained at all times.
  • Single-lane closures are expected Mondays through Fridays between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
  • Double-lane closures are expected Mondays through Fridays between 12:30 a.m. and 6 a.m.
  • Lane closures may also occur on weekends, except during special events.

 >> State Road A1A Construction Work through Summer 2017
  • Improvements on A1A from Oakland Park Boulevard to Flamingo Avenue
  • Two lanes of traffic in each direction of A1A will be maintained at all times.
  • The existing 35 mph speed limit will remain in effect during construction.
  • Single-lane closures can be expected from 9:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
  • At signalized intersections, a lane may be closed for a period of two hours or less between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
  • A sidewalk will be maintained on at least one side of the road within the project limits. Signage will be in place to guide pedestrians through the work zone.
  • During construction, the right or outside lane in each direction will become a shared bicycle lane and will have temporary "sharrow" (share the road) pavement markings and signage.

Please remember to slow down in construction areas and always buckle up, drive carefully and arrive safely. Share the road.
