Fort Lauderdale - The City of Fort Lauderdale is proud to announce that it will use Nextdoor, the first private social network for neighborhoods, to foster greater neighbor-to-neighbor and citywide communication. Fort Lauderdale residents can use Nextdoor to create private websites for their neighborhoods where they can get to know their neighbors, ask questions and exchange local advice and recommendations. Neighbors can use Nextdoor to discuss events, school activities, contractor recommendations, disaster preparedness, recent crime activity, and even search for lost pets.
Nextdoor was specifically designed to allow neighbors to feel comfortable sharing information with one another in a safe environment. All members must verify that they live within the boundaries of a specific neighborhood. Information shared on Nextdoor is password- protected and cannot be accessed by those outside the neighborhood or found through internet search engines. In addition, Nextdoor does not share personal information with any third parties.
This effective tool will serve as a valuable resource to engage residents, foster interaction and ultimately create a stronger community. More than forty Fort Lauderdale homeowner associations have already created a website for their neighborhood. Residents are encouraged to start using Nextdoor to connect with one another and get to know other residents within their neighborhood.
Those interested in joining their neighborhood’s Nextdoor website can visit www.nextdoor.com and enter their address. If Nextdoor is available in their area, they can immediately sign up. If a Nextdoor website has not been established for their area, active and engaged neighbors are invited to apply to bring Nextdoor to their neighborhood.
