BACKGROUND

The City of Fort Lauderdale is transforming traffic control boxes into pieces of art depicting the City as a fun, vibrant, active, beautiful, diverse, connected city. 

Box wraps are an affordable, tangible option for improving a community. Through this program the City has an opportunity to work with local stakeholders (i.e., neighbors, businesses, non-profits, etc.) to develop a sense of community pride and ownership that helps transform Fort Lauderdale into the “City You Never Want to Leave.” In addition, the City is able to advance its “We Build Community” mission, as some of the art designs feature neighbor volunteers from neighborhoods adjacent to the box locations.

N. Federal Highway and E. Sunrise Boulevard Traffic Control Box Wraps

The City of Fort Lauderdale wrapped seven traffic control boxes along N. Federal Highway and E. Sunrise Boulevard in 2018. These wraps feature images that highlight the benefits that Holiday Park brings to the downtown Fort Lauderdale area. The images feature neighbors and their dogs, gymnasts from Fort Lauderdale Stars, local tennis stars Akasha and TJ Urhobo, orchids from the annual Orchid Show, and horses from the Fort Lauderdale Police Mounted Unit.

E/W Broward Boulevard Traffic Control Box Wraps

As part of the Downtown Walkability Program, the City of Fort Lauderdale wrapped 10 traffic control boxes along the Broward Boulevard corridor in 2016. The wraps feature images captured by a local photographer and include City of Fort Lauderdale neighbors, local models, the Florida East Coast Railway's Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Trains, and even pets.

Please note that some of these wraps were removed during the Florida Department of Transportation's project along E/W Broward Boulevard. They will be re-installed when the construction project has been finalized.

Flagler Village Traffic Control Box Wraps

As part of the Downtown Walkability Program, the City of Fort Lauderdale wrapped five traffic control boxes within the Flagler Village Civic Association neighborhood in 2015. These wraps were designed by a local artist and focus on multiple modes of travel. The bright colors and illustrated designs align with the artistic vibe and culture of the Flagler Village neighborhood.

Riverwalk Utility Box Wraps

As part of the Downtown Walkability Program, and in partnership with Riverwalk Trust, the City wrapped eight utility boxes on the north and south sides of the Riverwalk in 2015. The wraps display past Go Riverwalk Magazine covers with the corresponding cover story printed on the sides of the boxes. The Riverwalk box wraps serve as both iconic features and provide education and awareness of past efforts in the area.
