Marine Industry Day

“Industry picnic” celebrates marine businesses’
multibillion-dollar contributions to South Florida

FORT LAUDERDALE – More than $60 million in refit projects have come to South Florida since a sales tax cap on boat repairs was passed last year, providing a huge boost to our region’s thriving marine industry.

To celebrate both the jobs and economic impact created by the tax cap and the industry all year long, the third annual Marine Industry Day will take place on Saturday, June 18th from noon to 6 p.m. at Esplanade Park (400 S.W. 2nd St.) in downtown Fort Lauderdale.

“This event is the perfect way for everyone to learn about our region’s marine businesses and their contributions to the community while kicking back and having a good time,” said Phil Purcell, executive director of the Marine Industries Association of South Florida, which hosts the event.

The free family-oriented event includes fun, interactive experiences with numerous marine-related activities, children’s areas, educational games, live music, prizes and award-winning food trucks. The festivities, which include propeller races, water taxi rides, miniature train, face painting, antique motors and much more, were attended by more than 2,000 people last year.

MIASF is hosting the “industry picnic” with support from partners including Riverwalk Fort Lauderdale, the National Marine Manufacturers Association, Florida Yacht Brokers Association, U.S. Superyacht Association, Young Professionals in Yachting and the Marine Industry Cares Foundation. The event is free and open to the public. To learn more, visit www.marineindustryday.org, email info@miasf.org or call 954-524-2733.
