College Academy @ BC to Hold Open House Events

The College Academy @ BC (Broward College) will hold two informational Open House events for interested students at Bailey Hall, Broward College, Central Campus, 3501 SW Davie Road, Davie, on Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at 7 p.m. (for students whose last names begin with A-L) and Wednesday, January 7, 2015, at 7 p.m. (for students whose last names begin with M-Z).

The College Academy @ BC is a joint Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) and Broward College educational experience, which offers high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to simultaneously earn a high school diploma and an Associate of Arts Degree from BC. Students enrolled in the accelerated college entrance program take dual enrollment college courses at BC’s central campus. Tuition and books are provided at no cost for College Academy students. As a result, the freshman and sophomore years of college are free of charge.

The College Academy @ BC, Where A High School Goes to College, is designed for students who have the maturity required for college campus life, the discipline to manage their time independently, and the intellectual ability to handle the rigors of college work. Students share enriching cultural experiences and are able to participate in most of BC’s extensive extracurricular activities.

Now in its 14th year, The College Academy @ BC is recognized for the incredible academic achievement of its students. Last year, 100 percent of the College Academy graduating class earned an AA degree, as well as a high school diploma, and 95 percent qualified for a Bright Futures Scholarship. The Class of 2014, with 166 graduates, was offered over $12 million in scholarships.

High school sophomores interested in learning how to earn a high school diploma and college degree, while in high school, are invited to attend the College Academy @ BC Open House. Eligibility requirements and program benefits will be explained and questions from interested students and their parents will be addressed at the Open House events. For additional information about the College Academy, visit collegeacademy.browardschools.com or contact Dr. Jodie Weinstein, guidance director, at 754-321-6900.
