A ceremony to dedicate a grave marker honoring United States Marine Corps Private First Class Gregory Carter, who was killed in action in Vietnam in 1969 and laid in an unmarked grave for 50 years.

WHO:
The ceremony will include remarks from Retired United States Marine Corps Lieutenant Colonel James Davies, representatives of the Vietnam Veterans of America, the Marine Corps League, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund Wall of Faces project, Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis, and others.
BACKGOUND:
Gregory Carter was a resident of Fort Lauderdale and a graduate of Dillard High School. He began his service in the United States Marine Corps in January 1969. He was killed in action in Vietnam in October 1969. He was buried in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. For unknown reasons, his grave remained unmarked for 50 years. Thanks to the efforts of Lt. Col. James J. Davies, USMCR (Ret.), the Vietnam Veterans of America, Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (VVMF) Wall of Faces Project, the Marine Corps League, and others, PFC Carter’s grave will now be properly marked. The dedication ceremony will help ensure the ultimate sacrifice made by PFC Carter and the 58,317 U.S. Service Personnel in Vietnam will not be forgotten.
