Citywide Lighting Master Plan

The City of Fort Lauderdale is developing a Citywide Lighting Master Plan to address existing maintenance needs, provide guidance to future developments within the City, and standardize City lighting details and specifications. The Lighting Master Plan will also provide guidance on appropriate lighting levels for roadways within the City. The included map shows preliminary areas identified for future lighting improvements. The project team will obtain stakeholder and public input throughout the process to identify other priorities to include in the Lighting Master Plan.

Request a New Streetlight

The City of Fort Lauderdale uses energy efficient illumination throughout the city to aid in the safe and
orderly movement of traffic and pedestrians. Requests for residential street lighting on local roadways will be evaluated to determine if the need is warranted as defined below. When determining lighting levels, the City will refer to the minimum standards set forth by Florida Department of Transportation.

Should a streetlight request be deemed necessary for the health, safety and welfare of the general public
traveling on City Streets, the approved light will be installed as funding permits. If funds are available,
priority shall be given to:

  1. Traffic hazards
  2. Intersections
  3. Dead-end streets
  4. Mid-block locations
  5. Date of request

Requests will be reviewed for approval by the Parks and Recreation Department.
