Lifeguard next to tower

The City of Fort Lauderdale has a rich history of continuous ocean lifesaving services, dating back to 1926. Fort Lauderdale Ocean Rescue is USLA certified and nationally recognized for excellence.

Fort Lauderdale Ocean Rescue (FLOR) is a team of certified first responders including Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT’s) and paramedics who specialize in preventive actions, ocean rescues and emergency medical assistance.

Lifeguards are stationed on the beach each day, 365 days a year, even holidays, in 20 towers along Fort Lauderdale Beach. Lifeguard towers are placed from Fort Lauderdale Beach Park and end at NE 18th Street.

FLOR protects and serves over 5 million beachgoers every year, saving hundreds of lives, preventing over 40,000 swimmers from accidental drowning, providing medical treatment to over 8,000, providing information to over 130,000 and reuniting lost children with their families. The lifeguards provide Mutual Aid to adjoining agencies within Broward County.

Lifeguard towers and trucks are always stocked with medical emergency supplies such as back boards, oxygen, resuscitation equipment, automated external defibrillators, rescue tubes and paddle boards.

Ocean Rescue ensures the safety any beachgoer on its famous beaches. Patrons enjoy the beautiful Fort Lauderdale Beach year round. Please remember to swim near a lifeguard to keep yourself and you family safe!
