A career as a Fort Lauderdale firefighter and paramedic is very rewarding with a career path full of unlimited opportunities. As one of our team, you get to save lives, prevent injuries, and become an important part of our community. Your career focuses also on saving property and preventing the fire from spreading to nearby structures. For details about career opportunity and development reference this PDF.

As a Fort Lauderdale firefighter, you will be part of our diverse team; you will be able to not only form lifelong relationships, but obtain specialized skills from Technical Rescue to Hazardous Materials to Marine lifesaving. Many of our firefighters are certified in five or six areas. Teamwork means that you have to place the welfare of others above yourself and give back to the community. Specialty teams are smaller and will teach you communication and personal development.

Develop Yourself

The job itself is physical and demanding, yet allows you as an individual to develop not just your physical well being, but to focus and sharpen your mental skills. The more you learn, the further you go. Our own Fire Chief started with the department years ago, so know the potential for promotion is always there after dedication and study.

Although the shifts are long and demanding, you get to decide when you want to work. You have the option of choosing a shift pattern that frees you from the traditional nine-to-five routine. Your job is to be available for the community 24 hours during your shift so to protect our community.
